For last couple of weeks there have been a bunch of power cuts across the UK - which are pretty rare for most of the UK for the last decade or two.
At a guess, a lot of Ripe Atlas probes (and/or the broad band routers (& co) they depend on) are not backed by a UPS. Even those with a UPS would be unlikely to last 6 hours - as per outage on Southampton today.
Fascinating to see if Ripe Atlas probe data could be harnessed to map these outages.
Slightly off topic wrt the project’s core purpose - but its resilience is an accessible proxy for that of wider infrastructure.
